KUALA LUMPUR: One of two men on a motorcycle fired several shots at a man at a bus shelter in Seri Kembangan yesterday evening, killing him on the spot.
The incident, which happened at 5.40pm, caused panic among the parents who had come to fetch their children from the nearby Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Serdang.
Serdang police deputy chief Supt Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed the shooting.
An eye-witness, who declined to be identified, said he was waiting to fetch his child at the school gate when the incident happened.
“All the parents ran helter-skelter. It was a frightening experience for us today,” he said.
Another eye-witness, who only wanted to be known as Ahmad, 33, said he was waiting for his daughter about 10 metres from the bus shelter.
He said he heard what he thought was the firing of crackers but saw all the parents running away.
“When the situation calmed down, we saw a man lying on the ground with blood on him,” he said.
Ahmad said he did not see the gunman.
“Several other people said someone on a motorcycle opened fire at the man and sped off,” he said.
Another witness, who identified himself as Din, said he was less then five metres from the scene of the shooting.
“Today, the bus shelter was filled with parents waiting for their children because it had just rained. Suddenly, I heard what I thought were firecrackers,” he said.
A check by Bernama showed that the scene of the shooting was about a kilometre from the Serdang police station. – Bernama
