PEKAN: Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has described PAS as merely a distraction during the 14th General Election to take away votes from the opposition.
As such, he said he was confident that the party led by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will not win in the general election.
“I hope that during the general election, do not vote the two parties, the scale (Barisan Nasional-BN) and the moon (PAS).
“The moon cannot win, it is only a distraction… its presence is merely to assist BN,” he said in his speech at a gathering with the Orang Asli community in Kampung Gumum, here yesterday.
According to Bernama’s observation, the event did not get the support of the locals with the camps filled only with party members and media practitioners.
Dr Mahathir said if it wins in GE14, PH will fight not just for the welfare of the Orang Asli in Pekan, but also others throughout the country.
He said among the issues which will be given attention is the preservation of the environment as the Orang Asli is dependent on natural resources for their income.
According to Bernama, Dr Mahathir’s presence in Felda Chini yesterday failed to attract the attention of the people of Pekan.
Only about 50 residents turned up for the former prime minister’s first programme at Kampung Gumum, which involved a meeting with the Orang Asli community.
Meanwhile, his ceramah in Felda Chini 2, which started at 8.30pm, was attended by 500 people.
The talk also involved PH party leaders such as Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Leong Ngah Ngah (DAP), Ronnie Liu (DAP), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (PPBM) and National Felda Settlers’ Children’s Association (Anak) president Mazlan Aliman.
Pekan is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
In his speech, Mahathir who is PPBM chairman, said his visit to the region was aimed at urging the people to change the government in the coming general election.
