KUALA LUMPUR: Felda plans to transform its land schemes into smart townships by 2050 under the Felda 2.0 programme.

Its chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the smart townships would be equipped with basic infrastructure and amenities with access to high-speed internet.

“Among the new revenue-generating opportunities to be explored is tourism.

“We cannot be satisfied with agricultural income alone or expect the economy to grow by simply opening more shops,” he said when participating as a panel member in the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue session on “New Generation of Felda Leaders Aspirations Towards 2050” here yesterday.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was the moderator of the dialogue session which was attended by over 500 participants.

Shahrir later told reporters that the Felda 2.0 project would start next January with the Felda Lurah Bilut scheme in Pahang, with an estimated allocation of RM10 million.

The initiative also adopted the TN50 approach with input from the grassroots, which included the need for a Felda hospital. – Bernama
