SHAH ALAM: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) will form a special social media team to counter lies levelled against the coalition and federal government.
Its chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said the team would ensure that the people received accurate information and not be influenced by misleading claims particularly as the 14th General Election drew near.
“We will launch the team very soon.. at the moment we have 16 people who monitor every news and issues written about the party and government,” he said at a gathering with Selangor Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP) leaders here last night.
Also present at the event were LPP chairman Tan Sri Zainal Dahlan and former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhamad Taib.
Meanwhile, Noh, who is also Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister also reminded community leaders to be alert against false information circulated through social media.
He said community leaders had a role to play in giving the correct version to the grassroots they served, of any news or information that had been twisted or manipulated by certain quarters to mislead and confuse the people.
“Fake and disparaging news being hurled against the government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak are becoming rampant and we want to prevent this,” he added. — Bernama
