KUALA LUMPUR: The death of Malaysia’s Honorary Consul to Madagascar, Zahid Houseinaly Reza, who was believed to have been assasinated on Aug 24, is still being investigated by the Madagascar authority.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the Malaysian government was following the development of the investigation into the case to determine the actual cause of Houseinaly’s death.

“We had actually planned to send a team there (Madagascar), but was advised by the government there to give them a chance to carry out the investigation first, thus postponing the departure of the team.

“This is a criminal case and must be investigated under the laws of the country,” he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2018 at the policy level for his ministry at the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday.

On the debris of the MH370 aircraft which was due to be delivered by Houseinaly to Malaysia when he was allegedly assassinated, the minister said the debris has now become a case exhibit and could not be taken back to Malaysia.

“When we wanted to retrieve the debris, they said it is under investigation. So, we have to respect the laws of that country,” he said. – Bernama
