KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA must be proactive in seizing the opportunities brought by the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and e-commerce to empower women economically and to produce more women entrepreneurs, said MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.
Ong who is also Second Minister of International Trade and Industry, said IR4.0 and e-commerce have opened up a whole new environment with great potential for women in this country.
“Wanita MCA should maximise these opportunities to lead Malaysian Chinese women to take full advantage brought by these two elements.
“It is critical to note that the opportunity and room for development among females will become limitless,” he said when opening Wanita MCA’s 42th Annual General Meeting today.
Ong said in recognition of women’s contribution to the economy and realising the importance of training more women entrepreneurs, the government under Budget 2018 has allocated RM20 million for the purpose.
“This training includes the PEAK Entrepreneur Programme under MyWin Academy. I hope Wanita MCA will lead Chinese women to participate actively in the programme and develop more women entrepreneurial talents,” he said.
Earlier, in her speech, Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie had proposed for her members to work in getting support from five non-MCA members each, in gearing up for the 14th General Election (GE14).
“Every member should at least get the support of five voters. These have to be non-MCA members, which in turn will translate into votes for the party.
“If the wing’s 460,000-odd members are able to get support of five voters each, this would translate into more than two million votes,” she said of the “1+5 Strategy”.
On another development, Heng said the wing had launched new mechanism, known as the Jaringan Rakyat PLUS (JR PLUS) since last May in the bid to serve people better.
“JR PLUS acts a bridge to connect the grassroots to the government. It helps to determine their level of livelihood and should they need any aid. This (information) will be given to the appropriate channels or agencies to assist them.
A total of 1,219 out of the 2,073 Wanita delegates attended the annual meeting this year. –Bernama
