GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has been asked to investigate the drain wall and base below the houses in Taman Hong Seng, here, which were affected by floods.

Penang State MCA Secretary Tang Heap Seng who visited the houses is also urging for the houses to be repaired.

In a statement, Tang said he observed that in one of the houses, the base of a column had settled with the ground and is broken causing the column to tilt.

“Some parts of the ground floor at other parts of the house have also cracked and settled,” he said.

He informed that one of the residents said there are drains deep below the houses, some as deep as 20 feet.

Also present during the visit with Tang was MCA member Tan Khai Beng.

A suggestion was mooted that cameras normally used for inspection of underground sewer to be used to do the checking below the houses.

“We understand that the drainage system does not belong to the State Government, but based on safety and humanitarian grounds, this is the time the State Government will exercise its machinery to resolve the safety of the residents,” he added. – MO
