PETALING JAYA: Is DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang going to come out and deny the latest allegation put forth by blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, or will he remain quiet?
Social activist Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, in asking this, wants to know if Lim is a newly-minted billionaire, as suggested by Raja Petra in an article that was published last week.
Raja Petra claimed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had offered Lim a bribe of RM1 billion in order for the former Prime Minister to be made the chairman of Pakatan Harapan.
Part of that deal, according to Raja Petra, was Lim will not spill the beans on the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) foreign exchange (forex) scandal of the 90s and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir be given a safe Parliament seat to contest in the upcoming General Election.
The blogger claimed that RM750 million has been paid thus far, and once Mukhriz’s seat is confirmed, the balance will be paid.
Speaking at a press conference at the Hilton Hotel, here today, Tunku Abdul Aziz said DAP members and Lim’s loyal supporters have a right to know what the situation is really like.
“Will Lim deny the allegation that Raja Petra has made and proceed to sue him?” Tunku Abdul Aziz asked.
He pointed out that DAP members, Lim’s loyal supporters and the general public who will be voting in the next GE have a right in Malaysia’s democracy to be told the truth by a political leader who aspires to lead the nation.
“If he fails to deny the allegation that he had been bought off with RM1 billion and sue Raja Petra in consequence of this, then Malaysians must come to the only logical conclusion that Lim has succumbed to bribery and corruption,” the former DAP national vice-chairman said.
When asked if Dr Mahathir too should provide a response, Tunku Abdul Aziz said it is only fair that the former Premier come out to either confirm or deny.
“As we have been told time and time again, in any corruption case, it takes two to tango. Lim on his own will not be able to do this bribery dance. Mahathir, according to Raja Petra, is the paymaster.
“Would he dare to come out openly and state his position? If it is false, deny and sue Raja Petra to teach him a lesson,” Tunku Abdul Aziz added. – MO
