SEREMBAN: A tahfiz school at Raja Chengkau here caught fire early this morning, Luckily, only three students needed medical treatment for smoke inhalation.
This latest blaze incident occurred barely a month since a fire destroyed the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school in Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, killing 21 students and two wardens.
In the Sekolah Tinggi Islam As Sofa (STIAS ) fire in Rembau today, all 37 residents of the hostel managed to escape the blaze, although the fire destroyed over 60 per cent of the all-girls 2-storey hostel, Rembau Fire and Rescue Services Department senior assistant officer Mohd Fuad said, the New Straits Times Online reported.
The English news portal quoted him as saying the department received a distress call at 1.50am, and a fire and rescue team was despatched, arriving at the scene at 2.05am. The blaze has been fully extinguished.
Meanwhile, two teenage boys suspected of torching the Datuk Keramat tahfiz school will be charged for murder today at the Special Court for Children at Jalan Duta while the remainder will be prosecuted for self-administration of drugs.
Yesterday, NST reported city police chief Datuk Amar Singh saying police have received instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to charge the teenagers.
“Charges for two of the accused will be under Section 302 of the Penal Code (for murder). Another charge is under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (for self-administration of drugs),” he said in a statement.
