PENDANG: The Kedah state government is considering seeking aid from the Federal Government’s Disaster Trust Fund to help farmers affected by the flash floods recently.
Chairman of Women, Agriculture and Agro-Based Development, Entrepreneurial Development, Social Welfare Committee, Datuk Suraya Yaacob said the application would be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry once the floods have subsided and a detailed assessment of the damages obtained.
“I urge farmers to report their losses to Muda Agricultural Development Authority and the Area Farmers’ before an investigation is carried out.
“After the report is submitted, officials from the Agriculture Department and MADA will investigate and assess the losses,” she told Bernama after presenting incentives to the farmers in Pendang here yesterday.
It is estimated that 765 hectares of padi land in the MADA area were damaged after they were inundated by flood waters.
Of these, 671 hectares of padi land is in Pendang district and 94 hectares in Kubang Pasu while 212 hectares in areas outside MADA with losses amounting to more than RM4.6 million. – Bernama
