KUALA LUMPUR: A Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmaker described Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s visit to China as a hypocritical move.
Sungai Besar Member of Parliament (MP) Budiman Mohd Zohdi also said that Mohamed Azmin’s visit to China was proof of the Opposition’s hypocrisy as the latter had ridden on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s initiative of going to China in May this year to bring in investors.
He pointed out that Najib’s success in bringing back an extensive amount of investments
was used as a political tool by the Opposition when it accused the federal government of “selling the country to China”.
“The Opposition have been insisting that the Prime Minister’s visit to China did not seem to benefit the country so why did Azmin also visit China. Isn’t that hypocrisy?
“It should be remembered that Azmin’s visit to China wouldn’t have been possible without the initiative by the Prime Minister and the federal government,” he said in a press statement here today.
Budiman was commenting on Mohamed Azmin’s recent working visit to China where the latter said he was there to attract investors into the country.
“Although he hasn’t released any official statement on the matter, it was obvious that whatever attempt by Selangor to benefit the state was actually an outcome of the federal government’s initiative and hard work and the Selangor government is just riding on the initiative.
“The Prime Minister has initiated various efforts to bring in investors from China from Government-to-Government (G2G), Businesss-to-Business (B2B) to People-to-People (P2P). Including the recent May visit to China which sees the amount of investment in Malaysia from China reaching more than RM30 billion.
“The federal government’s effort has also paved way for China’s renowned company, Ali Baba Group to open its distribution hub in Sepang which indirectly and directly benefits the Pakatan Harapan ruled state of Selangor but instead it had turned around and accused the federal government of selling the country to China,” added Budiman.
Budiman reminded the rakyat not to be fooled by the fancy economic and investment terms used by the Opposition in attempts to distort the rakyat’s understanding and to compare their initiatives to the ones done by the federal government.
He claimed that the Penang state government was also being hypocritical when it had borrowed money from China to carry out development in the state.
“It is very clear that the Opposition’s action is akin to ‘spitting up’ (meludah ke langit) and they should just stop confusing the rakyat.
“What they are doing is not only pure hypocrisy but they are also trying to gain profit from the federal government’s initiative which they had initially criticised,” said Budiman. – MO
