KUALA LUMPUR: The late Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah was laid to rest at the Langgar Royal Mausoleum in Alor Setar at 5.50pm today.
Before that, a casket bearing the late Sultan’s remains was carried on a special carriage or ‘pedati khas’ as it was escorted to the mausoleum.
The funeral procession passed through Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Langgar.
The procession left the palace at 2.30pm today, accompanied by 89 shots, as reported by Utusan Online.
Earlier today, members of the public paid their last respects to the late Sultan at the Istana Anak Bukit where the lying-in-state was held.
Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V was also present to pay his last respects, accompanied by the Tunku Bendahara of Kedah Tunku Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Thani, as reported by Bernama.
Members of the royalty who also paid their last respects were the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, among others. – MO
