KUALA LUMPUR: Some 100 people joined a solidarity gathering alongside the Rohingya community in Malaysia outside the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The gathering was attended by several non-governmental organisations (NGO) as well as Umno Youth.
Present on behalf of Umno Youth were its exco member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah and Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.
The plight of Rohingya Muslims has been making headlines as they have been dubbed as the world’s most persecuted minority.
Displaced and living in deplorable conditions in the Rakhine state on the borders of Myanmar and Bangladesh, many have fled, with some living as migrants in Malaysia.
The gathering yesterday was to hand over a memorandum to the Myanmar Embassy urging for its government to find a solution to end to the humanitarian crisis.
Our photographer Azrol Ali was at the gathering yesterday to capture these images as the Malaysians who attended walked alongside the Rohingya people in calling for an end to the atrocities taking place in Myanmar. – MO
