KUALA LUMPUR: Recently retired Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has been made the chairman of Kumpulan Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.
This was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today, according to Bernama.
Apart from that, the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has also been appointed as a special envoy on combating terrorism and human trafficking.
Khalid retired yesterday after holding the post of IGP for four years. He was succeeded by former Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
In a statement, Najib said Khalid’s appointment as a special envoy was to enhance the ties and cooperation between Malaysia and the international community in efforts to combat terrorism, extremism as well as human trafficking.
As for Khalid’s new role as Prasarana chairman to replace Tan Sri Ismail Adam whose term ended on Aug 31, Najib said the former IGP would continue Prasarana’s mission and vision to provide world class public transportation and to increase the use of public transportation.
On behalf of the government, Najib thanked Ismail for his contribution during his tenure as Prasarana chairman. – MO
