PKR members held for causing unrest at PM’s lunch do

SEBERANG PERAI: Several PKR members who turned up at a lunch event where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was supposed to attend, were picked up by the police today.

The street from Seberang Perai Politeknik was abuzz with the presence of several PKR members who were planning a flash mob to object Najib’s coming to the party’s stronghold.

Among those seen picked up by the police were Penang PKR Youth chief Asrol Sani Abdul Razak, PKR Youth Info chief Fahmi and Seberang Perai Municipal Council councilor Ong Jing Chen.

Later another woman was also picked up after she was heard uttering words of provocation such as “penyamun”. She was seen trying to strangle a female policewoman who was trying to escort her to a police truck.

It was learnt that they have been taken to the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters for questioning.

The state Youth wing was planning to hold a demonstration urging for the release of jailed PKR de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The area was also decked with many PKR and Parti Bersatu flags, which covered up Umno and BN’s flags.

The prime minister is in Penang for a visit to meet BN state leaders and the community here.

He is scheduled to turn up at the polytechnic for lunch with the community here, which is expected to see some 25,000 sitting crossed legged on the floor having their meal, making it a record-breaking event.

Seberang Perai Tengah OCPD ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid has yet to issue any statement on the arrests at press time.
