M’sian gamer and teammates win RM10.75m in Dota 2 competition

A Malaysian gamer and his team put Malaysia on the world map when gaming team LGD Forever Young won third place in the world’s most prestigious and lucrative e-sports tournament.

In the process, the five-member China-based professional gaming team took home US$2.5 million (RM10.75 million) in prize money in The International 2017.

Selangorian Tue “Ah Fu” Soon Chuan is the sole Malaysian representative among the teams in the top three in the competition. Four Malaysians in three separate teams qualified for The International 2017.

In 2012, Johorean Wong “ChuaN” Hock Chuan, part of the China-based team Invictus Gaming, came out tops in the tournament.

In 2013 and last year, two Malaysian teams also came in third at the tournament.

The competition which took place in Seattle, United States, featured Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2), a five versus five team battle game.
