Guan Eng’s sister-in-law robbed outside home

GEORGE TOWN: The sister-in-law of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, suffered losses amounting to RM2,000 when a man snatched her handbag from inside her car outside her house in Minden Heights here last night.

The incident occurred about 8.15pm as the 51-year-old victim, a specialist doctor, was returning home after work.

She was driving her car into the porch of the house when a man suddenly barged through the automatic gate of the house which had not closed yet.

A police spokesman said in the incident, the man armed with a spanner, smashed the front passenger window of the car, before escaping with the victim’s handbag, which contained cash, a mobile phone and personal documents.

He was seen fleeing with his friend who had waited outside the house on a motorcycle, the spokesman said.

Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Zainol Samah, when contacted, said police had obtained a closed-circuit television camera recording from the victim’s home to assist in the investigation.

“Efforts to track down the two men, believed to be in their 20s, are under way and the investigation is still ongoing,” he said. – Bernama
