GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno Youth is asking for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to resign from his position, after the state signed the Corruption-Free Pledge.
Penang Umno Youth Chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim reasoned that this is because Lim must prove that he is not corrupt, now that the the pledge has been signed by the Penang state government.
Rafizal said this while waiting to hand over a memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad earlier today.
“The reason we are handing this memorandum to MACC is to ask for the corruption trial of Lim Guan Eng to be expedited and also to ask for him to resign from his post pending the trial.
“Lim must now clear his name since the state administration has officially pledged with the MACC to be corruption-free,” Rafizal told reporters in Komtar here today.
When asked if Penang Umno will sign the corruption-free pledge on its own since the party’s assemblymen were not present at the signing ceremony today, Rafizal said the Penang Umno Youth will sign it tonight.
“All the Penang Umno Youth will sign it tonight,” he said.
The corruption-free pledge was signed by the Penang state government earlier today with an additional 10 integrity measures.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dzulkifli. – MO
