DAP member Zaid Ibrahim today made an observation of the Muslim leaders in the Opposition coalition, claiming that they have always been afraid of answering questions pertaining to hudud.

In several tweets posted on his Twitter account @zaidibrahim this morning, the former Law Minister said PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was just one of such leaders.

He however indicated that the exception, with reference to the Muslim leaders, was Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman Mahathir Mohamad.

“Muslim leaders in Pakatan (with exception of Tun) are always afraid of answering questions about hudud. Wan Azizah is just one them (sic),” he wrote.

He added that they did not understand how public laws and policies must be based on the singular concept that the Malaysian Constitution was secular.

“Only secular country can ensure freedom and personal choice, and religious laws do not.

“If you want to be leader of a multireligious country, you must be willing to defend secular institutions and laws,” he wrote.
