The government should be led by a coalition of political parties that are strong, experienced and aligned to ensure the country’s economic development and the people’s well-being, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said political stability played an important role in the development of a country.
“Among the factors that determine political stability is cooperation among the political parties in the ruling coalition,” he said in the latest post on his official blog on the topic ‘Message of the Prime Minister on Political Stability’.
Najib said that looking at the history of the political opposition in the country, it was evident that they would not be able to last long.
“Since 1986, the opposition has formed nine coalitions, such as Barisan Alternatif that was set up in 2008 and Pakatan Rakyat that existed from 2008 to 2015. These coalitions had to be disbanded after a few years,” he said.
“The funny thing is that a new small party has come about that wants to change the name of Pakatan Harapan. What ‘Pakatan’ will emerge next?” he asked.
The Prime Minister said internal conflicts in the opposition pact would make it impossible for these political parties to give attention to the people.
“A government led by them will become fragmented and can lead to a collapse of the economy,” he said.
Referring to Selangor, Najib said the political situation in the state would become unstable once PAS or DAP withdraws from the government, thereby affecting the position of the menteri besar and the state government.
“A leadership that is not aligned will force frequent Cabinet changes and this will cause disruption to or cessation of the basic services provided by the government,” he said. – Bernama
