The federal government is targeting to have 50% of Malaysians with diploma or degree by 2050, says Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid said the target was expected to be achieved through National Transformation 2050 (TN50) as conceptualised by Prime Minister Najib Razak in the interest of the future generations.
“At that time, we put aside the differences among us even though we are Malays, Chinese, Indians or Kadazans as we are Malaysians on the whole.
“We cast away our differences because we want to achieve vertical social mobility in which we will improve the livelihood of all (Malaysians) and ensure no quarters are left behind,” he said when closing the 2017 Bumiputera Education Roadshow at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang today.
The roadshow was inspired by Najib and was aimed at giving Bumiputera students who dropped out to further their education right up to tertiary level.
As such Ahmad Zahid said it was an extraordinary programme as almost 60,000 study offers were issued exceeding its target of 50,000.
In this regard, Ahmad Zahid called on students who have completed their studies and had obtained employment to also assist their families to become highly skilled manpower.
“This is to ensure productivity from our effective efforts continues to expand because in 33 years or by 2050, we want to see our country in the top 20 of the world,” he said.
He said the programme held at 44 locations nationwide was not an election agenda but held for the people.
He said the roadshow was not something seasonal and it would continue to be held in future to ensure the people received the best in education.
Ahmad Zahid also gave his assurance that he and Najib would continue to support the holding of the programme in the interest of the people.
“This is not seasonal…we go down to the ground and do the best for the people.
“We should thank our Prime Minister, not just with applause but express our thanks by giving support to the government and the party of the Prime Minister,” he added. –Bernama
