The tragic plight of abused 11-year-old boy, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, had visibly moved the Sultanah of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah.
On Tuesday, Raja Zarith Sofiah visited the boy, whose legs had been amputated, Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Bahru.
She now wants all mosques and suraus in Johor to conduct special prayers this Friday for Thaqif’s speedy recovery.
She has also directed Johor Health Department to check conditions of other students at the private religious school in Kampung Lukut, Kota Tinggi, where the abused Thaqif was studying.
Her directive was given to Johor Health, Environment, Information and Education Executive Councillor Ayub Rahmat, who said Raja Zarith was concerned about the health and condition of the other students and did not want another Thaqif-like abuse case.
Thaqif’s legs were badly damaged by bacterial infection allegedly due to heavy beating with a water hose by the school’s assistant warden, who had been remanded since.
The boy is now in danger of losing his right arm at the elbow due to the infection.
He is reportedly currently undergoing surgery at the hospital.
The Star reported that the procedure was, however, delayed as his heart rate was not stable.
Thaqif’s right arm and fingers have turned black due to damaged blood cells and tissue.
