EUFF to screen European award winning movies

The European Union Film Festival (EUFF) will mark its 17th year in Malaysia with screening of critically-acclaimed movies from across Europe from tomorrow Oct 20.

The contemporary European cinema’s dynamism, breadth and innovation are shown with the screening at Golden Screen Cinema (GSC) outlets in Klang Valley (Oct 20-30), George Town (Nov 3-9), Kuching (Nov 17-23) and Kota Kinabalu (Dec 1-7).

Since 2000, film enthusiasts, expatriates, families and students are joining in for their first ‘foreign-language’ film experience at the festival.

With films spanning drama, romance, comedy, horror, adventure and documentary, the cultural diversity and creativity are being reflected in the region’s enduring status as elite film makers.

A total 21 award-winning movies from 19 European countries will be showcased, including winner of Goya awards 2016 – ‘Living Is Easy With Eyes Closed’, Cesar 2016 awarded ‘Standing Tall’, as well as German Film award winner ‘Who am I – No System is safe’.

The Goya Awards, known in Spanish as los Premios Goya, are Spain’s main national annual film awards, while the César Award is the national film award of France.

Cesar award will be delivered in the Nuit des César ceremony and was first awarded in 1976.

Four movies – Living is Easy with Eyes Closed (Spain), Have You Ever Been on the Moon (Italy), Dreams of a life (UK), Children of Glory (Hungary) – will be screened for free.

EUFF tickets are sold at RM8 (normal seats inclusive of GST. Tickets can be purchased via GSC E-payment at www.gsc.com.my, GSC Mobile App (iPhone and Android) or at participating GSC outlets.

The 17th EUFF is being organised by the EU delegation to Malaysia, in collaboration with the embassies and cultural institutions of 17 EU member states, Norway and Switzerland.

EUFF has been supported by local partner organisations GSC, EU National Institutes for Culture (Eunic) Malaysia, Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu and CinemaOnline.
