So far 10,178 of the 19,731 families who received assistance under the Azam Tani project had been freed from the clutches of poverty, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said this achievement proved that the project introduced in 2010 had been a success.
“The Azam Tani project was one of the measures undertaken by the ministry to improve earnings of low-income households.
“Those involved in the project are required to engage in various sectors including farming, fishery, livestock breeding and processing of agricultural products,” he said when opening the Azam Tani 2016 Convention in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.
Also present were his deputy Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim.
Bernama reported that about 1,000 participants including Azam Tani project officers attended the inaugural convention to celebrate those who have been successful under the project.
