Fifteen National Type Tamil Schools nationwide will receive a total of RM3 million to boost sports facilities in an attempt to mould talented athletes, said Deputy Education Minister P.Kamalanathan.
He said this was decided at a meeting among MIC president S. Subramaniam, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Malaysian Indian Sports and Cultural Foundation (MISCF) President T. Mohan two months ago.
“Each school will receive RM200,000. A special briefing will be held for the headmasters of the 15 schools. The allocation will be handed over next year by Subramaniam,” he told a media conference here today.
In addition, Kamalanathan said, the government had allocated RM16.5 million to 251 government-aided Tamil schools for infrastructure maintenance.
Of the total, he said, 164 schools had received the allocation via electronic fund transfer and the rest would receive it next year. — Bernama
